What Training Does an Animal Communicator Need?

What training does an animal communicator need? To become good and confident, most animal communicators need more official training rather than just trying it on their own. After 25+ years of doing this work and running my own school, what I’ve found is that the part people underestimate isn’t the connecting. It’s everything around the connecting: knowing how the information is sent, knowing when it’s you instead of the animal, and knowing what to do when things go awry.

And none of that training is about installing a skill in you that wasn’t there before. It’s the opposite of that, which is where I want to start.

What Training Does an Animal Communicator Need to Get Started?

A beginner needs three foundational skills before anything else: understanding what intuition is and how animals use it, understanding how their own intuition works, and understanding how their energy and emotions get involved. Training doesn’t hand you a new ability. It helps you rediscover intuition you already have.

First, everybody has innate intuition. We’re all born with it. Yes, I’m saying that every single person is born open intuitively. The challenge is that by about the age of five we’ve all shut that down in order to fit in in society.

So when we’re talking about learning animal communication, what we’re talking about is using a course or a teacher to help you rediscover that innate intuition inside you. It’s not about learning a completely new skill, it’s about finding what’s already there and developing that.

To get started in animal communication a student will need to learn the foundational skills.

First you’ll need to understand what intuition is and how animals use it. This means learning how the information is sent by the animal. There are many different ways that animals can send intuitive information to us, so we need to start to understand what that is first.

The next foundational piece that a student will need to learn is how their intuition works. And what this means is that there are quite a few intuitive senses that we all have access to, but we tend to leave some open and continue using them in our regular life without realizing it. And those are the intuitive senses that an animal is going to tap into and start using, so knowing what those are when you’re beginning makes things a lot easier in terms of picking up the intuitive information that the animal is sending.

Next, another foundational skill to learn is about your energy and your emotions and not pushing through. So the student needs to learn how they interact with their brain, when their brain is pushing forward instead of their intuition, and what to do about that.

These are the basic pieces that a student needs to learn at first in order to be able to have a great base to work from.

Does an Animal Communicator Need a Special Gift or Just the Right Training?

Animal communication doesn’t require a special psychic gift. Every human being is born with their intuition open, which includes the psychic senses and the ability to communicate intuitively with animals. The communicators who look gifted are the ones who took the time to develop what everybody starts with.

Many people think that animal communicators have a special psychic gift, but that is not the case. Yes, some animal communicators have spent the time and energy to develop their animal communication skills, but that doesn’t mean that they started ahead of everybody else because of a gift.

Every single one of us human beings is born with our intuition open. That is our psychic senses, and that is also our ability to communicate intuitively with animals. By the time we’re about 5 years old we tend to shut that down. So there is no special gift required, it is more about taking the time to discover what’s inside you and develop that.

So often I hear from students who think they can never be as good at animal communication as I am. But then I explain that I started where they started and I spent the time to develop this. They have the foundational intuition just like I had the foundational intuition, and if they put the time in to learning the skills and dealing with their own internal fears that come up, they can excel as animal communicators as well.

What Are The Core Skills A Good Animal Communicator Training Program Should Teach

A good animal communication training program covers how intuition works with animals, how animals send their messages, how your own energy and emotions interfere, how to tell yourself apart from the animal, and how to recover a connection that has gone wrong. The last piece, and the one that gets left out most often, is confidence.

A good animal communicator training program will teach you:

  • How intuition works with animals
  • The various ways that animals will send their intuitive messages to you
  • How your energy and emotions can get in the way, and what to do about that
  • How to understand when it’s you versus the animal
  • How to get the connection back when things go awry
  • A repeatable structure you can rely on

And how to believe in yourself and feel good and confident about what you’re doing regardless of what people out there say.

Do Animal Communicators Need a Certification to Practice Professionally?

Certification isn’t required to communicate with animals, and plenty of people never need it. It matters when you want to do this for other people as a career, because the animal communication market is wide open and clients have very little way of knowing who actually trained and who didn’t.

Whether or not you get certified in animal communication depends on what you want from your animal communication connections.

I’ve found that somebody who wants to connect with their own pets, and wants to connect with their neighbor’s pets, or maybe wants to help at a rescue program and do this as it comes up rather than for a living, does not need to get certified. They’re doing it because they love it and it’s fun for them, and that’s it.

There’s another group of people though who know they love it so much that they want to be able to do it for others, and they want to be able to live off of what they’re doing. They want to make this their career. And those are the people who benefit from getting certified.

The reason that certification is important is because the animal communication market is all over the place. How do you know if somebody actually went through training? How do you know if somebody’s actually any good? Well, the best way to figure that out is by looking at the person’s business, looking at their testimonials, looking at where they trained and who they trained with. You can certainly create your own practice without a certification, but I’ve seen that it helps a lot to have the support of a certification umbrella.

When I first began my classes with my students I wasn’t certifying them. But then I realized I was teaching a very specific way of animal communication, called Soul Level Animal Communication®, and people wanted to share that in their readings. Eventually I started certifying my students when they passed all of the classes — and now when somebody comes to my website to get a Soul Level Animal Communication reading, they know exactly what they’re going to get, because all of the people I’ve certified deliver that type of reading.

What Does an Animal Communicator Certification Program Cover?

My certification program is four courses and the membership. Two of them run 6 weeks each and two of them run about 4 to 5 months each, and they move a student from a first intuitive connection with an animal all the way to running an intuitively based business of their own.

In the Soul Level Animal Communication 101 course, this is where I teach the very basics. This is where students are going wow, I had my first animal communication connection! And by the end of the 101 course they’ve had quite a few of those and they’re just happy to have had them. That course runs 6 weeks, and the first intuitive hit from an animal usually happens in the second week.

In my Soul Level Animal Communication 102 course we take things further. We build on those initial very basic skills so that the student can begin connecting with more animals, handling more complicated situations, and working more deeply with the animal and the human. This one is also 6 weeks.

The Soul Level Animal Communication 201 course is where things really change. The student has the basics, but now I want to teach them the very structure that has allowed for the depth of the Soul Level lessons that people are receiving and experiencing with their animals. So in this course not only do they learn how to go through that exact flow that I created, the one that has helped tens of thousands of people, but they also develop their confidence and their skill, because this course has feedback sessions with my teaching assistants where they can get one-to-one sessions that help them dial in on what’s working and tweak what isn’t. This course is about 4 to 5 months.

The final course in my program is my Soul Level Business 202 course. If the student passes the 201 course, they move into this course with the idea that when they complete it they can join my Certified Practitioner Program membership and be certified in Soul Level Animal Communication. This is the course where they’re learning how to create, from scratch, an intuitively based business. This is the course where we take advantage of not only everything I learned while going to grad school for my MBA, but also everything I’ve learned in my 25+ years running an intuitive business — because intuitive businesses have some extra hurdles and things that need to be considered versus a typical service business. This course is also about 4 to 5 months.

When students complete this, they’re invited into my membership, where they become certified by me as Soul Level Animal Communicators. Animal communicators have all their own versions of these programs, but mine has been in place for over a decade and this is what I’ve found works the best.

How Long Does Animal Communicator Training Take?

Animal communication training takes weeks to get started and about a year of coursework to reach certification. The 101 and 102 courses run 6 weeks each, and the 201 and Soul Level Business 202 courses run about 4 to 5 months each.

Your first psychic connection with an animal comes fast. In my 101 course the student is receiving their first intuitive hit from an animal in the second week.

Confidence takes longer than connection does. By the end of my 101 course students are pretty excited with what they can do for animal communication readings, but their confidence still needs time to develop. It usually takes another 6 to 12 weeks for the student to start saying, OK, I’m feeling good now! It’s not that it’s hard to connect, it’s more that it’s hard to believe themselves.

And then the full road to certification is those four courses, which is why I say that becoming a professional animal communicator isn’t a weekend workshop. You’re doing readings the entire way through it, though. You’re not waiting until the end to start.

How to Choose the Right Animal Communication Training Program

The right program depends on what you want out of this, and everybody starts in the same place regardless. The paths don’t separate until later, so you don’t have to decide today whether this is a hobby or a career.

And if you’re not ready to commit to a course yet, come hang out in Be Open first. I’m in there answering questions and doing readings, and it’s full of people at every stage of this, including plenty who haven’t started.
