What to ask a Pet Psychic? (A.K.A. Animal Communicator) If you’re like most animal lovers, you’ve probably wondered what your pet is thinking at some point. Maybe your cat stares at you with those big green eyes and you just know she’s trying to tell you something. Or perhaps your dog has a behavior that’s left you scratching your head, wondering what’s really going on.
That connection you feel with your animal isn’t your imagination… it’s real! And a pet psychic (or animal communicator as we often call ourselves) can help you tap into that deeper understanding between you and your animal companion.
But before you book that reading, there are some important things to consider. Let me walk you through what you should know and ask before connecting with a pet psychic!
Can Psychics Communicate with Pets?
Yes! And here’s why this is actually possible… intuition is a natural part of an animal’s life. They use it to survive in the world, alongside their traditional senses that everyone is aware of.
The thing is, as humans, most of us shut our intuition down as we grow up in favor of data and experience (and then people like me work to help re-open that connection!). But because it’s shut down for so many people, they often can’t recognize it operating in their animals.
As a professional Pet Psychic, when I connect intuitively with animals, I receive their psychic messages in multiple ways:
- Intuitive seeing (like pictures or visuals in my mind)
- Hearing (thoughts or words that aren’t my own)
- Feeling (physical sensations from the animal)
- Emotional connections (experiencing what the animal is feeling)
- Intuitive downloads (receiving packets of information all at once from the animal)
It’s like having a conversation, but one that happens energetically rather than verbally. And while it might sound…a little out there, remember – this is actually something we’re all born with the ability to do! I’m just one of the people who has rediscovered and strengthened that muscle to be able to actively use it.
One of my most memorable experiences was connecting with a cat named Whiskers who had been hiding under his family’s bed for days. When I tuned in, I saw an image of a large moving truck and felt overwhelming anxiety. It turned out the family next door was doing construction in their backyard – and Whiskers was not liking the noise of the truck involved. Once his human understood this, she made arrangements to have him stay with her mother during the construction days. Soon, Whiskers was exploring confidently and sleeping in his favorite sunny spot again. These moments of clarity and connection are why I love what I do!
What Questions to Ask a Pet Communicator?
One important element in figuring out what to ask is actually choosing the best animal communicator for you – because the person best for you may not be the same person who is right for your best friend. In addition to checking out my way more detailed article about hiring an animal communicator, you’ll want to make sure your chosen pet psychic has enough experience that they can handle many different types of questions and situations – and that does take time to develop.
Also, look for someone who allows the animal, rather than the human, to lead the intuitive conversation. And, just like… well… like anything in life, you want to work with someone you actually like and feel comfortable around. A reading wouldn’t work well if it was with someone who didn’t listen to you or who you didn’t feel safe with.
Once you’ve found someone you trust, then it’s time to think about your questions!
What Are Good Questions to Ask About an Animal?
Many people want to ask their question like this: “Every night at 8pm she gets up and does this THING (like barks at nothing for example) and it’s really upsetting to me and my partner, and we think she’s doing it because she’s seeing spirits, or maybe because she’s in pain because she has this problem with her leg and blah blah…“
This is not the best way to ask the question as it will not allow for answers that come your pet’s heart. It’s actually kind of leading the animal to the answer you want (unknowingly).
Instead of leading the pet psychic/animal communicator by providing all the background info and what YOU think the answer is, try this. It’s actually easier for pet psychics to know very little about the situation – so they can be present with the animal to receive whatever unfiltered and unbiased information that animal wants to share.
So, in this example, a better question would be, “What does she want me to know about her barking at night?” Very un-triggered and neutral in the question, and it leaves space for the animal to answer and doesn’t lead the pet psychic at all!
Some other great neutral questions might be:
- “What would he like me to know about his health right now?”
- “Is there anything she wants me to understand about her relationship with our other pets?”
- “What makes him happiest in our home?”
- “What could I do to make her feel more comfortable/secure/happy?”
What to Ask a Pet Psychic Who Can Communicate With Deceased Pets
First, all of the people I train and certify in Soul Level Animal Communication can connect with deceased pets and wild animals. This is a very important aspect of animal communication, so I’ve made sure my people are highly skilled at this. (Many deceased pets actually lead their humans straight to animal communication!)
Next, for what questions to ask, many people are seeking animal communicators and pet psychics because they are deeply in grief or guilt. They will have many questions stemming from their grief and guilt. But the same thing applies here as when working with a living animal. Try not to lead the pet psychic – or the animal – in asking your question.
The best questions allow space for the animal to answer however they want (maybe there’s something about this that you didn’t even know you wanted to know!). So good questions would be:
- “What does he want me to know about his last days with me?”
- “Does she ever visit me? How will I know it’s her?”
- “Is there anything he wants me to know about his passing?”
- “How can I get a sign from you?”
These are open-ended and give space in the reading for any answer.
How to Tell if a Pet Psychic is Legit?
There are a few important things to know when determining whether a pet psychic is a legitimate intuitive with great boundaries and connection.
First – pet psychics should be respecting your boundaries. As an animal communicator myself,I would never approach someone on the street to tell them their dog had a message for them. Nor would I ever just reach out to someone on social media to tell them I have a message for them from their cat. If someone is doing that, they are actually breaking intuitive boundaries (like… did you give them permission to connect to your cat? I wouldn’t want anyone walking by just connecting with my cat – that’s my private relationship with my cat!) And that may be an indicator that the person has a little more self-work to do on themselves regarding boundaries before they’re truly ready to do the deep intuitive connections.
Second, if you’re checking out the potential pet psychic’s website, make sure it’s a real website with a business email address (not petpsychic@aol.us or something), and a real URL. They should also have a phone number easy to find as well as their return policy clearly stated on their site.
Unfortunately, there is a scam going on right now where con artists reach out to unsuspecting animal lovers saying, “Hey I want to do a reading for you. I’m famous psychic so-and-so and I’m contacting you from my back up account.” Stuff like this – it’s a scam! As a legitimate and professional animal communicator for more than 20 years, I trust the animals to bring the people who are right for me to work with – to me. That way, I’m not pressuring anyone in to anything- they want the reading! Or the class – or whatever they’re coming to me for. So make sure that person can be actually connected to the “famous psychic” they are saying they are in some way other than they just “told” you.
Third, you really want to make sure the pet psychic gives you space to talk, confirm, and ask questions. If they just want to tell you all about your animal and you don’t get a chance to say “Wait, that doesn’t make sense, can you get more info?” – they may be too inexperienced to hold the psychic space for you. It doesn’t mean they aren’t legit necessarily, they may just be newer and need to gain more experience, to loosen the hold of anxiety they’re having in the reading (it can feel scary to do readings for new people after all!).
Fourth, the best readings are the ones where the information is coming straight from the animal with as little personal advice or translation from the pet psychic as possible. If it seems like the pet psychic you’re working with is giving you their personal advice, try to redirect them to only giving you the information from the animal. If they can’t leave their personal advice out of it, this probably isn’t going to result in you really knowing what your animal wants you to know and you may want to find someone else.
Fifth – if you don’t feel comfortable with the person – who cares if they are legit or not. Make sure the relationship – from the back and forth setting up the appointment to everything in between – truly feels good to you.
What to Expect in a Pet Psychic Reading
Pet psychics all work differently. Some need a name and photo beforehand, some don’t. It’s all depending on what feels comfortable to the reader and also on how they have been trained.
I’ll share with you how the amazing people whom I’ve trained and certified in Soul Level Animal Communication do their readings, so you can know what to expect. They can use a photo, a name, or even an intention. Because of privacy and permission, the animal you work with in your reading must be connected to you – and you can really only ask questions regarding your relationship with them – not their relationship with your mother for example. Because that is private between the animal and your mother.
The reading can take place on the phone or on Zoom video or in person. This will depend on the pet psychic you choose, and what options they offer. However, the coolest thing? You don’t need to have your pet with you! Remember, this is all done intuitively – so no pet needed in your lap 🙂
The pet psychic/Soul Level Animal Communicator will start off making sure you feel comfortable and will let you know how the reading will go. In most sessions you’ll be able to ask one or more questions and you’ll also learn how your pet is helping you at the soul level.
There will be a gentle back and forth during the session – where the reader silently asks the pet for psychic information (in their head), receives that information in their head and then verbally shares it with you. This will happen many times – as each time, the reader needs to be quiet in order to receive the information. If something doesn’t make sense – no problem. Just let your pet psychic know that you didn’t understand that piece so well. They’ll go back and re-ask the pet. Sometimes though – stuff just doesn’t make sense! And that’s ok. It may make sense 2 days later or 2 years later and we all just have to be OK with that.
