Feeling stuck in your animal communication practice is not a sign that something has gone wrong with your intuition. After 25+ years as an animal communicator, and a lot of years helping people turn animal communication into an actual business, what I’ve found is that the stuck feeling shows up for pretty much everyone. It usually means you’ve reached the edge of what you know how to do next. Not the edge of what you’re capable of.
There are two versions of it. In one, you sit down to connect and everything feels flat and far away, like nothing is coming in. In the other, your readings are going fine and the practice around them isn’t moving… nobody new is finding you, and the whole thing feels like it stalled out in the driveway.
Sometimes both at once.
Why You Feel Stuck in Your Intuitive Animal Communication Practice
Most animal communicators get stuck for one of two reasons: something is interfering with the intuitive connection itself, or the practice (i.e., business) built around that work has stopped growing. The connection kind is almost always caused by comparison, effort, or unmanaged energy, rather than by any loss of ability. The business kind comes with an extra layer, because an intuitive business asks you to be visible about something plenty of people still think is strange.
I call the first one the AC plateau, and there’s a few reasons for this:
Comparing yourself to other people. You watch someone else do a reading, they get one of those specific hits… the name on the street sign, the pattern on the blanket… and some part of you goes I want to get info like THAT. Right there, you’ve stopped receiving and started auditioning.
Trying too hard to deliver the exact right answer. The reading turns into a test with a grade at the end.
Trying to please the person you’re working with. Their face becomes the thing you’re reading, instead of the animal.
Not managing your energy. You show up frazzled and can’t quite get your bearings.
Being distracted. Half your attention is on the dog, half is on the email you forgot to send.
Notice what all five have in common. Not one of them is about the animal. The animal is right there, communicating, the whole time.
Now, the second kind of stuck looks different. Your readings are good however the business isn’t growing. Getting your name out there is its own skill, and if putting yourself out in public isn’t your fav thing, that alone can hold a practice still for years. That’s the regular, everybody-has-it, you-need-to-market-yourself-more challenge.
An intuitive business comes with extra reasons for being stuck, sitting right on top of those regular ones. Like, not feeling worthy for example. And here’s the good part: work on these extra reasons and the regular business stuff gets easier too. Not because marketing changed. Because you did.
How Self-Doubt Creates an Animal Communication Block
Self-doubt is the most common cause of a blocked animal communication connection. When you get stressed during a reading, it can feel like the animal has gone away or shut you out. What’s actually happening is that doubt has you censoring the information instead of receiving it. The animal is still communicating. You’ve just started editing.
Someone gets nervous mid-reading, the connection goes quiet, and they decide the animal left. Or worse, that the animal didn’t like them and cut them off!
That is not what really happens.
What happened is Am I getting this right? Is this going to make the person happy? Is this even real or am I making it up? Every one of those questions puts you into the mind frame of censoring the intuitive information coming from the animal, rather than simply receiving it and passing it along to their human.
When you can manage your emotions and your energy during that reading, you become a conduit. You stop judging what the animal gives you and start sharing it in the exact way they want it shared. And when you do that, the information gets deeper and more accurate.
Which is the part that surprises people. The accuracy doesn’t come from trying harder. It comes from getting out of the way.
When Mary, one of my Certified Soul Level Animal Communicators, thought she’d lost the connection, she told her client. “This is a hard connection. It’s not working quite like I want it to. It’s hard to connect with your dog…” Mary was embarrassed at having to share this as she felt it made her look unprofessional, but she also knew that sharing that information would open up the communication.
The moment she shared that, her client said, “Oh that makes total sense. Charlotte is like that in real life too.” And with that, Mary relaxed, stop worrying about it and the reading went right back to normal.

Signs You’re Making Real Progress in Your Animal Communication Business (Even When It Does Not Feel Like It)
Progress in animal communication does not look like a perfect, 100% accurate reading. It looks like recovering faster, sharing information you don’t understand, and taking care of your own energy while you work. Those three things separate an animal communicator who’s growing from one who’s about to quit.
You got nervous, and you brought yourself back. The nerves showed up, and instead of the reading ending there, you calmed yourself down and re-established the connection. After all, the only thing the animal cares about is the connection – the nerves are just a slight distraction.
You received something intuitive from the animal that made no sense to you, and you shared it anyway. No clue what you were talking about. Said it out loud regardless. This is the big one, because it means you stopped requiring information to be understandable before you’d trust it. (BTW this is exactly what the animal wants from you!)
You took time during the reading to manage your energy. The animal found that respectful, and thanked you for it with even more right-on information.
None of those three feels like progress while it’s happening – they just seem like a smoother experience. But look back at your past readings to notice what is really going on!
What to Do Right Now If Your New Animal Communication Practice Feels Like It Stalled
If the intuitive connection is what stalled, start with energy management, ask the animal you’re connecting with for help, and stop comparing your readings to anybody else’s. If the business is what stalled, start by naming the fear underneath it. All of these are things you can do today, without waiting to feel ready.
For an intuitive stall:
- Do your energy management. Always first. It’s learning to use your own energy and awareness so the intuitive information can get through, and it isn’t one technique… it’s a whole pile of them, because what works for you might not work for the person next to you. We go through a lot of them in my Be Open community.
- Ask the animal you’re connecting with for help. So many animal communicators forget they can do this! You’re trying to muscle your way into a connection, and the animal is right there, available, ready. Ask them to strengthen it. Ask them what you’re missing. They help. And they can even give you advice about the reading itself, if you let them!
- Stop comparing your connections to anyone else’s. What makes your readings yours is YOU. Your personality, the way you move through a reading, the questions you think to ask that nobody else would. Embrace that, and the nerves do start to melt!
For a business stall, the work starts somewhere else entirely. Ask yourself whether you have any fears about growing.
That’s the most common thing sitting underneath a stalled intuitive business, and it’s rarely the fear people expect. If everyone finds out what I do, will they laugh? Or the opposite one: if everyone finds out what I do, will they ALL want a reading and I’ll be completely overrun? (Our minds come up with some great ones.)
Name your fears, then look at how they connect to whatever you’re struggling with in the business. For example, if some part of you is braced to be overrun by people needing readings, of course getting on social media feels terrible. You’re not avoiding marketing. You’re avoiding the flood.
So the first thing to do is name the fear.
When Angie, one of my Certified Soul Level Animal Communicators was struggling to grow her business, I asked her to name her fear. She was worried that she wasn’t going to make enough money and that she couldn’t support herself.
As soon as she named this, she also shared that she was afraid to raise her prices. And when we looked at her prices, they were still the original introductory rate from when she first began. When she finally raised her prices to what was more aligned with her experience, her prospective clients started taking her seriously – and the booking began showing up.
This is a lot of what we work on when in my animal communicator certification program, and in Soul Level Business. The intuitive skills and the fear work end up in the same room, because in an intuitive business they’re the same problem wearing two different hats.
How a Like Minded Community Can Help When You Feel Stuck Growing Your Animal Communication Business
Being around other intuitive people is one of the fastest ways out of a stall, because an intuitive practice comes with challenges most business advice doesn’t cover. A community of animal communicators gives you people who recognize what you’re describing without a long explanation first, plus people with practices who don’t need you to prove anything before you start.
Most business advice was not written for someone whose work involves receiving information from a dog in another country or for someone whose work might not be believed in by some. The challenges aren’t entirely different from any other business… there are just extra ones. And explaining those extra ones to somebody who’s never had them is its own kind of tiring.
If you want to be around people working on the same things you are, my animal communicators community is a good place to start. Some members have been doing readings for years. Some did their first one last week. It’s where I hang out, answer questions, do readings, and where we work through energy management together. Nobody in there needs you to explain why any of this matters.
Yes! I want to be around people who get it!
FAQ
What should I do if I feel stuck in my animal communication business?
Figure out which kind of stuck you’re in first. If the intuitive connection is what feels off, go straight to energy management, ask the animal you’re working with to help you strengthen the connection, and stop comparing your readings to anyone else’s. If the connection is fine and the business isn’t moving, name the fear underneath it. Fear of being laughed at and fear of being overrun both stop people from being visible, and neither one gets solved with more marketing tips.
How do I know if I am actually making progress in animal communication?
Progress shows up in three places, and none of them is a perfect reading. You get nervous and bring yourself back. You receive something that makes no sense and share it anyway. You pause mid-reading to manage your own energy. Those are the signs you’re growing, and they usually feel like nothing at all while they’re happening.
Can self-doubt block my ability to communicate with animals?
Self-doubt doesn’t remove the ability, but it absolutely interferes with what you can receive. When you get stressed during a reading and start wondering whether you’re getting it right, you shift from receiving the information to censoring it. The animal hasn’t gone anywhere and hasn’t shut you out. Manage your emotions and your energy in the moment, and the information comes back… usually deeper than it was before.
Why does my animal communication feel worse now than when I started?
Because you know more now. Beginners share whatever they receive because they don’t yet have a standard to measure it against. As you learn, you start evaluating the information before it leaves your mouth, and that evaluating is what makes everything feel flat. It’s a plateau, not a decline, and it tends to show up right before people get considerably better.
