These 9 things your deceased pet wants you to know… well, they come from over two decades of me connecting intuitively with animals who have crossed over to the Other Side. I’ve done thousands of readings where I’ve watched people’s faces light up with understanding and relief when they finally get these messages. And you know what’s really cool? When someone finally understands these truths, their pet on the Other Side just absolutely lights up too! It’s like this beautiful connection happens that transcends… well, everything.
Your Deceased Pet Is Still Connected to You
OK, so I need to start by saying that your pet can still communicate with you, even though they’re no longer in their physical body. I don’t love using the word “telepathic” because it sounds a little… out there? I prefer “intuitive” or “psychic” communication because it feels more accessible.
But whatever we call it, the truth is that this connection doesn’t end when your pet crosses over. Actually! Your pet is constantly sending you little signs and messages to let you know they’re still with you. They’re still loving you. They’re still part of your life. It’s just that their energy has changed form.
And here’s the really amazing part – pets are actually MORE capable of communication from the Other Side because they’re not limited by their physical bodies anymore. They can connect with you in ways that transcend time and space, which is actually pretty incredible when you think about it!

The Rainbow Bridge Is Real!
Well… OK, the actual BRIDGE isn’t real – that’s just from a poem that created that concept. But the idea that animal souls go through a process to get to the other side? That part is absolutely real.
There is definitely a beginning to the process (when they leave their physical body) and an end (when they are fully in spirit). I like to call it “the world of spirit” but it’s so much easier for most people to use the term “Rainbow Bridge” because it gives us something tangible to hold onto.
The idea is that they “cross” the bridge to get to the Other Side. It’s a beautiful metaphor that helps us understand the transition our pets make. And while the details might be different from how the poem describes it, the essence of that transition is very real.
9 Things Your Deceased Pet Wants You to Know
- They may have left their body behind, but they still want a relationship with you from the Other Side. This relationship just looks a little different now, but it can be just as meaningful (and sometimes even more so!).
- They can visit you. Your pet can absolutely drop in and check on you. They’re not stuck in some far-off place – they can be right there with you whenever they want to be.
- You can “feel” your pet sometimes when they visit you (if you have an open mind). That random warmth against your leg as you’re falling asleep? The pressure that feels like a cat just jumped onto your bed? That’s not your imagination…
- They can help you find your next pet. Your deceased pet often plays matchmaker! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve connected with animals who proudly tell me they “sent” the new pet to their person. They want you to be happy and loved!
- The Other Side is the perfect place for them. There is no fear, worry, hunger, or loneliness there. It’s a place of complete peace and unconditional love. Your pet is experiencing pure joy.
- YOU greeted them when they crossed over. This one surprises a lot of people! But a higher aspect of you is still in spirit, even though you’ve incarnated into this body. Part of your own soul was there to welcome them home.
- They are never mad about how they passed – even when it’s an accident or euthanasia. They see the big picture of their passing and understand it was their time. They feel no resentment, only love.
- They are never mad at their humans (and they never hold a grudge) if their human couldn’t be there for their passing. They understand completely and feel your love regardless.
- They hear you when you talk to them. Those one-sided conversations you’ve been having? They’re not one-sided at all. Your pet hears every word, feels every emotion, and is responding in their own way.
Signs Your Deceased Pet Sends to Comfort You
Your pet on the Other Side is constantly trying to let you know they’re around! Here are some of the most common signs from your pet in the afterlife:
Sometimes you’ll keep seeing or hearing your pet’s name in random places – on TV, in a book, overhearing a conversation. It’s not just coincidence when this happens multiple times! Your pet is basically saying, “Hey! I’m here!”
Or maybe you’ll catch a whiff of your pet’s distinctive scent – you know, that special smell that was uniquely theirs. I still occasionally catch the scent of my dog Bella’s “dirty dog” smell, and there’s no logical explanation for it.
Some people hear the jingling of a collar, a bark, or a meow when their pet couldn’t possibly be there. Others catch glimpses of their pet out of the corner of their eye, only to turn and find no one there.
And then there are those moments when your pet just pops into your thoughts completely out of the blue. You’re doing something totally unrelated, and suddenly you’re thinking about them. That’s not random – that’s them dropping by to say hello!
Dreams are another powerful way pets connect. These aren’t just regular dreams – visitation dreams feel incredibly real and often leave you with a sense of peace when you wake up.
How to Strengthen Your Telepathic Connection
Here’s the thing… you have to have an open mind. People often want to be hit over the head with a 2×4 (ie a sign that is THAT HUGE), but that’s just not the way it works. If you can trust in the small, subtle signs, eventually they do get bigger and bigger.
Second, you have to actually ASK your pet for signs. Hope doesn’t work as well as explicitly asking. You can do this by saying it out loud, writing it down, whatever feels good to you. Be specific that you’d love a sign, but leave what the sign will be up to your pet!
And this is super important – don’t share your experiences with people who aren’t open-minded. You’ll need to protect your experience, so be sure to find a safe person or community (like my Be Open Community) who can help you nurture this connection.
Last, if you really want to develop this ability, take a class – like my SLAC 101 class where I teach you step by step how to communicate intuitively with animals, both living and in spirit.
How to Support Other Pet Owners in Grief
Supporting someone who’s lost a pet is all about being present without trying to “fix” their pain. Offer an ear, not advice. Just be there.
Check in on them gently with questions like, “How are you doing?” versus “How are you doing with your pet loss grief?” as that second one is too pointed and may make the person clam up.

Remember that pet grief is often disenfranchised grief – society doesn’t always recognize how profound this loss can be. So acknowledging the legitimacy of their grief is one of the most supportive things you can do.
And if they’re looking for more support, my Be Open Community has a space specifically for pet loss, where people who really understand can offer comfort and guidance through this challenging journey.
Remember, your pet wants you to heal and be happy. Working through your grief doesn’t mean forgetting them – it means honoring the love you shared by carrying it forward in a new form. And from the Other Side, your pet is supporting you every step of the way.
