Vitamins for energy management?

shutterstock_217093450I’m sitting here eating breakfast, getting ready to type my morning email and I’m laughing at (yet super frustrated with) myself.

In the beginning of October I started a sugar cleanse because I noticed that I’ve gotten back into the habit of using sugar as an energy management tool.

How could sugar possibly be an energy management tool? Well, it pops you right out of your body when you eat even a moderate amount of it – and for sensitive people like me (and probably you) that’s a great (yet unhealthy) way to stop myself from feeling everything around me.

I thought I’d eliminated all major components of sugar – but this one chewable vitamin I take for mental clarity… well, I was loving that vitamin.

The bottle said that I could take up to six a day and I was whipping through bottles.

Finally, this morning I was wondering to myself, why am I so into this vitamin?

I took a look at the actual ingredients and there was a ton of “fruit flavor” – which, just has to be some type of sugar. Otherwise, why would I be loving it so much!

Ack! Sugar snuck in there… once again.

So, why the heck am I bringing up my vitamins?

Because of energy management.

Here I am – probably just like you – wanting to do my best at taking care of my body, my mind, my energy… and I missed a spot.

And it was right under my nose!

The thing about energy management is that it’s really important, but when you start going off track, it’s sometimes hard to notice.

Here are a few things that I personally do when I’m having trouble holding myself in a great energy managed space:

  • Eliminate the news! Stop watching TV, listening to the radio, reading newspapers.
  • Get outside. Just spending 10 minutes outside, no sunglasses, just hang
  • Even better – get outside and walk! Get breathing a little harder, swing your arms, look like a goofball
  • Drink more water. Yep – being properly hydrated not only helps to feel calmer, it can increase psychic clarity
  • Step away from the electronics. No cell phone, no video games, no nothing. Just be a human for a little bit.
  • Sing! Yes! Put on your favorite music and sing it loud (or perhaps dance!) while making dinner

So, these are some of my own energy management suggestions – I’m wondering about yours (I’m sure you have a few that others can benefit from!)… please share below and let’s get a list going for everyone to benefit from!

    Showering! There is something about washing my hair that refills my energy tank. Especially since as a mother, that’s sometimes the only place we can be alone! Sex always gives me a natural boost of energy as well. I never knew sugar could remove us so easily from our senses. Time to get crackalackin on my sugar intake!

    Meditation. Even five minutes recharges my energy and allows me to reboot myself.

    Breathing. Focusing on my breathing for a few minutes is like meditation for me.

    Standing barefoot on grass.

    Salt baths.

    Creating. I’m a quilter and working with my fabric to create something beautiful is, again, a form of meditation for me.

    Best advice from my dog: Go to the park and throw something, you’ll feel better!! And I’ll bring it back so you can throw it again!! Keep going, Mom, throw (release) and repeat indefinitely!! You’ll feel better!!

    My recharge favorites are cuddling with an animal, taking a short nap, watching an old sitcom guaranteed to make me laugh, or making a healthy smoothie. Good for body & soul!

    I ask for protection from outside energies every day because I’m so sensitive to ‘taking on’ stuff from others, and wanting to solve everyone’s problems. I realize if I am feeling out of sorts I:

    Ask for protection first.
    Then I either take a shower or an epsom salts bath. Something about water is very re-energizing!
    Have good boundaries in place is very important to not let my energy bleed out to others in need.
    Turn off my cell phone and TV.
    Spend ten minutes minimum outside with my three dogs and kicking three basketballs for them to play with!
    If I really need a boost, I love old cheezy sci-fi movies that are so silly it’s hard not to laugh. 🙂
    Listen to fun music and sing along.
    Cook something. It’s highly creative and de-stresses me.
    Do dishes by hand. Relaxing.
    The **worst** thing I can do is complain to someone about my day. The ‘woe is me’ thing is tempting to want to do, but backfires every time. Resist it! Find the good in life. 😉

    Love reading all the suggestions. Thanks. A 10 minute exercise video on You Tube is very helpful.Try to counter negative thoughts with a more positive one. I do this gently without making myself wrong or bad.

    Not sure exactly what you mean by energy management. Negative? Positive? Too much? But… when I get anxious or overwhelmed by what I am doing, I sit. I sit on the couch for 2 minutes, close my eyes and enjoy the quiet. I don’t think about anything or I think about living for 1 minute at a time, not just 1 day at a time. After about 2 minutes of sitting, eyes closed, I’m good. I focus back on what I was about to do, and go get it done and move on.
