Too plugged in? Wicked Cool Tool #12

Plugged in! It’s Wicked Cool Tool Wednesday, so I wanted to share this week’s tool.

This week’s tool is kind of an un-tool. I often like to do tooley-tools (i.e., step by step instructions on how to do something with your energy) but to do those tools well, it helps to have a good foundation.

And how do you get a good foundation?

By unplugging.

Yes, from everything!

Lately, my family and I have been putting our cell phones in the kitchen when we walk in the door – and we leave them there. If we want to use our cell phones, we have to go all the way to the kitchen to use them.

We started doing this because I recently read a statistic that said the average person checks their phone and email 150 times a day! So, I started looking at my family. It wasn’t 150 times a day, but I noticed that we carried our phones wherever we went.

And that makes it very difficult to pay full attention to whatever it is that we’re doing.

We’ve been following this idea for the past couple of weeks now and it’s made a world of difference. Our conversations are better, we notice things more quickly about each other and about our environment, and it’s just helping us all feel closer to one another.

It seems like such a simple, menial tool – but if you’re like we were, and you unknowingly became overly plugged in, this change really matters.

And oh yeah – let me tell you how EXTRA psychic I am being unplugged!

Plus, Tuukka, our dog gets even more loving now 🙂

And we are having better conversations with each other and going deeper!

    My acupuncturist told me not carry my cell phone around in my pocket because it disrupts your emery flow. I had a ache in my right hip & that is the pocket I carried my phone in, took the phone out & within a day the ache went away. Something to think about.

    Excellent idea!!!
    I get SO annoyed when I take time to be with people face to face and they have a cell phone on the table, or watch on their wrist that pulls their attention with lights and bells every 4 minutes. People need to get back to honoring one another! Thanks for spreading the good energy management idea. – Leslie
