This happens to me a lot. Someone will ask, “how can I open up my psychic senses?” or “how can I talk with animals like you do?” and the answer, you may be surprised, is something I say all the time. Energy Management.
Yup. Not a sexy answer. Nor is it a fun answer. No one wants to hear, “Slow down and notice how you’re feeling in this moment and if it’s not awesome, do a technique to make yourself feel awesome” because no one wants to slow down!
In fact, when I’m really OFF, I don’t want to slow down, I poo-poo energy management and, in fact, can get really angry that it even exists as something that I need to do at all (which is a sure sign that I REALLY need it!).
But taking a moment to actually manage your energy really is the key and really is sexy! If you’re feeling upset, stressed, embarrassed, like the world is running ahead of you, angry, or pretty much anything else not wonderful, energy management can easily and QUICKLY put you back on track. You just have to take the time to do it.
But what is this energy management thing that you all always hear me talking about? Is it grounding? Is it going into a dark room and closing the door? Is it telling yourself to stop worrying? The answer is – it’s really none of those things and yet it kind of is.
We’re all programmed to keep going no matter what. “Just push through!” is a phrase I’m sure you’ve heard a million times, as have I. But what if it’s not actually about pushing through?
What if you could actually do something to change your state of being so that you no longer felt like you had to PUSH through something, and instead you could just experience? That’s what energy management is.
In my life, I use energy management every day. I notice that I’m feeling sad or jealous or unsure (or whatever it is that is not awesome to experience) and take action to shift that feeling (now, I made it sound very easy – but some times are easier than others!)
Perhaps I’ll do some belly breathing, or maybe I’ll do my Quick and Goofy Way to Ground Your Energy, or I might even move into some yoga stretches. Basically, when I notice that I’m “off” I will do whatever it takes to get myself back “on.” It doesn’t have to take a while, and it doesn’t have to be complicated – but it does have to happen. Over the years, I’ve developed quite a tool box of techniques to get myself back on track.
So now, you’re probably wondering how good I might be at Energy Management. After all, I’m working with people on it every single day and I certainly talk enough about it! Well, for me (just like for everyone), energy management is a work in progress. Some days I’m great with it, and others I fall off the wagon and need to do more to get myself back on track. This does not mean that I am bad at energy management – in fact, it means that I’m GREAT at it because I catch myself whenever things don’t quite line up.
I encourage you to work your own energy management remembering that it is an in flux thing – but something you’ll use every day for the rest of your life!
