Don’t be grateful today

shutterstock_140358181Here in the US, it’s Thanksgiving! And while I complain about the weather getting cold, the darkness creeping in wayyyy too early in the evening, and the upcoming snow, I’m actually really looking forward to today.

The most obvious reason is that I’m going to spend time with family and friends that I don’t get to see very often.

But the other reason is… sugar!

I’ve been off sugar since the beginning of October (Oh, please don’t write in to me about the perils of being off sugar. It’s a temporary thing!)

Anyway, while I’m still choosing to be off sugar for a few more months (the psychic clarity that comes along with no sugar is pretty insane!), I’ve given myself today as a day to indulge.

And what’s great about that is, since I’ve been off it for seven weeks already, my tolerance for sugar won’t be very high – so a little will go a long way. And I’m really looking forward to my chocolate bourbon pecan pie!

Anyway, today is obviously a great day to think about the things you’re grateful for – I don’t think you should do that.

I  think you should take it up a notch.

Let’s think about the things we LOVE about our lives. Let’s think about the things we love that we get to do – even if we don’t get to do those things very often. Let’s think about the things we love to feel, to hear, to experience…

Really, this is just another way of being grateful, right? But I find that when people answer the question, “what are you grateful for?” they tend to get all serious about answering the question. They’ll say, “I’m grateful for my family, my job, my home…”

But where’s the energy in that?

When people answer the question, “What do you just love?” it inspires much more gratitude, it inspires more happiness, it inspires greatness!

I love watching my husband cook dinners with carrots because he always goes, “Woop! Tuukka, here’s your carrot! Woo woo!” and makes funny noises with her. It makes me so happy to watch that!

I love, love, love cooking for other people when my favorite music is on so I can sing and cook and chop and sample…

Feel the difference? Woo hoo!

What do I love??? I love the way my dog gets the zoomies when she sees me. I love the way my husband grabs my hand when he knows I’m struggling and just gives it a squeeze to let me know it will be alright. I love it when we are all together as a family. I love watching my son as he loves and nurtures his own son. I also love you and how you make me see things differently and inspire me to be be a better human! Thank you for the energy you bring to this world Danielle ?❤

I love spending time with my daughter and family! I love my pets and how they help me be more present! I love coloring and reading books! And I too love your emails for the difference in how I see things after reading them! And out of curiosity why would it be “bad” to be off sugar? I wasn’t aware of that :). Thanks Danielle for being you!?

I love being of service to others, by volunteering my time to veterans and family, especially on thanksgiving. This is my 40th years at the Soldiers Home, and it makes me happy to share fun food and bring smiles to the residents. To me, it brings the most stress free way to enjoy the holiday.
